| Fate Of Donation Pilot, 19 March - 27 April 2007 |
The FOD Pilot is a test of the full implementation of the FOD system at 5 hospitals. This includes:
- generation of FOD file
- transfer of message to BSMS via FTP
- transfer of message to BSMS via VANESA-F
- processing of FOD data into VANESA-F
Details of the hospitals and LIMS involved in the pilot are currently confidential.
Instructions for Pilot Hospitals
- Submit FOD files each day. The file should be generated after your main stock return.
- Continue to enter data into VANESA as normal. This provides us with comparison data to check that the FOD data is correct.
- Make a note of any difficulties, comments, improvements, or ideas that you have about the FOD system and send them to Rob.

Instructions for use of VANESA – FOD Flavour
Web Access
- VANESA-F is available at https://www.blood.co.uk/certifiedusersdev/bloodstocks/
- Access is available using your existing VANESA account (restricted to FOD Pilot users only).
- All pages in VANESA-F have a matching page in VANESA. To navigate between the two, simply change the URL to show ‘certifiedusers’ in place of ‘certifiedusersdev’
Manually submitting FOD files
- To manually submit a FOD file, navigate to the ‘Red Cell Stock Entry Page’.
- At the bottom of the page you will see a browse button – click it and browse for your FOD file.
- Then click submit to upload the file for processing (during the pilot, files are only processed at 12:15 each day)
- To confirm that the file upload was successful, a message box is displayed and an entry made on the activity log.
- You will be warned if:
> The name is invalid, i.e. isn’t in the format FODC12320070326090000.txt. You won’t be permitted to upload the file. > You have already submitted a file with data for that day. You can upload the file but the existing data will be overwritten. > You are attempting to submit a file for a hospital that doesn’t match the one selected. You won’t be permitted to upload the file.
Reviewing FOD data
- During the pilot, files will be process at 12:15 each day. Data from files submitted before 12:00 will be available from about 12:30. Data from files submitted after 12:00 will not be available until the following day at 12:30.
- When the file is processed, an entry is added to the activity log. If this reads:
> ‘Automatic file transfer …’ then the data from the file has been successful processed. > ‘File processing failed …’ then there was an error in the file structure and the data has not been processed. Please contact Rob to investigate.
- If the data has been successfully processed, it will be viewable on the relevant data entry pages in VANESA-F. It will also be available via the Data [table] Display section, and the Chart section as normal.
- To compare the FOD data with your VANESA data, click the link on the page name in the top left of the screen underneath the bsms logo icon, e.g. on the red cell stock page – click on ‘Red Cells: Edit daily stock’. This will open the same page in VANESA in a new window.
